Both just 20 years old, Kimberly and Jermoni came to First Place two years ago after growing up in the Los Angeles foster care system. Both had experience abuse, neglect and homelessness throughout their young lives. We set them up in their “first place,” a two-bedroom apartment which they share. Kimberly worked with her First Place team to complete high school and is now enrolled at Pasadena City College. Meanwhile, Jermoni focused on her career path and has found a full-time job with benefits. She’s working for Los Angeles County and loves her job! In the course of their two years in our program, Kimberly and Jermoni have become fast friends, providing support and encouragement to each other. They love spending time together and liken their relationship as family, family that they don’t otherwise have.
“I realized early on that First Place was a once in a lifetime opportunity to turn my life around and I couldn’t let that chance go to waste,” Kimberly
