Becoming a Leader
Richard spent all of his teen years living in the foster care system. As he approached his 18th birthday, he found himself feeling more and more vulnerable as he worried about managing life on his own. And then a friend told him about our program.
With the support of his First Place team, Richard enrolled in a local community college and got his first job. He was also nominated to join the Youth Advisory Board, which develops initiatives to strengthen our programs. There, he has fine-tuned his leadership skills as he works with organization leaders and community members to implement improvements.
“First Place has been there to guide me to pursue things I never thought I could. They’ve stuck by me, even during those moments when I wanted to give up.”
