Working for a brighter future
Dartre is an ambitious 19 year old who always wanted to be a famous chef. A childhood marred by family violence could have easily derailed him. He was placed into a foster home at age two and grew up in five different homes before turning 18.
Soon after, Dartre came to First Place, ready to learn how to be an independent adult. We helped him find a stable home so he could focus on finding a job and developing a career plan. He secured an internship at a local cooking academy where he gained hands-on experience at a prominent Oakland restaurant. Having gotten a taste of what it will take to run a professional kitchen, he’s fine-tuning his own cooking skills and applying to a culinary program that will help him reach his goal.
