Transforming the Lives of Older Foster Youth Nationwide

Partnerships with Child Welfare Agencies and Nonprofits Improve Outcomes for Young Adults Exiting the Foster Care System.

Phases of Engagement with Network Partners

While every partnership is a unique journey, our engagements typically consist of three primary phases.

LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS
SCALING EFFECTIVE SERVICES
SYSTEMS CHANGE

Landscape Analysis

First Place can conduct a landscape analysis of local system needs, gaps, and supports for foster youth, including services, resources, agency capacity, disparities for youth of color and the funding legal and regulatory landscape.

Our landscape analysis process involves:

deep stakeholder engagement

centers youth voice and lived experience

Based on that analysis, First Place can recommend next steps for policy and program enhancements to drive regional impacts.

Scaling Effective Services

Based on our nationally recognized My First Place model, we partner with child-welfare agencies and nonprofits to design and implement programs for transition-age foster youth. My First Place provides housing, employment, education and case- management services. Working with partners, we co-design and scale from ten model components to meet the needs of local foster youth as they become adults.

Systems Change

Working with local stakeholder groups, First Place identifies pathways to change the systems that serve foster youth ages 18-24. Lasting impacts for foster youth requires concerted efforts to change. Supporting effective implementation, building capacity and maximize the impact of extended foster care and other policies that support transition-age foster youth.
