Aila Malik is Founding Principal of Venture Leadership Consulting, an organization committed to creating high-impact community change through integrated support for not for profit organizations. She joins First Place as Interim CEO, providing strategic guidance to support the organization’s continued success throughout the leadership search process.
Aila has over 20 years of experience in supporting and educating youth in many contexts. She previously partnered with First Place to oversee the launch of program operations in Santa Clara County. She has served as a executive for high performing non-profits, including Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY), and is an experienced trainer in the community-based organization, education, and correction sectors. She has also taught at Santa Clara University School of Law and Lincolk Law School as an adjunct lecturer for Juvenile Justice courses.
Aila holds a BS in Environmental Science from UC Santa Barbara, earned her JD at Santa Clara University, and is a member of the California Bar Association. She was a UC Berkeley Law Foundation fellow (2004-06) and received the 2011 ABA Child Advocate of the Year Award. She was recently recognized by Silicon Valley Business Journal as a 2020 Woman of Influence.
Aila was born and raised in east San Jose and Cupertino and is a first-generation Pakistani-American. Through her life experiences, she developed a passion for helping those in need. Aila’s greatest motivation for social change is her desire that her three kids grow-up in a world where disparity does not limit people’s access to opportunity; that ALL people have opportunities to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
